May sucked

‘big fat hairy donkey’s balls’ as my friend Anja would say. From beginning when I sprained my freakin ankle, to end when we had to have Lou’s arm plastered up, it just sucked.

*whining warning – if you don’t want to hear it then click away now*

My sprained ankle seemed to start the spiral of disaster. I’d rolled on it a few times already that day, but that’s pretty normal for me. The last time I rolled it though, I was wearing shoes and it flexed that bit more and it HURT! A few days of rest, ice and compression didn’t help much and after a couple of weeks of hobbling around I found myself with  my leg in a half cast and on crutches to rest the ankle completely. My back cannot handle crutches so they were discarded fairly quickly, but my casted foot did mean that my family allowed me a couple of weeks of only needing to get myself too and from the loo to give my ankle a chance to heal. It’s a lot better now, still a little sore, needs some support and re-strengthening, but at least I can get about my normal business again.

Then the same day it was decided that I needed cast and crutches Lou broke her elbow. Like me she has some extra flexible joints, and like me she can poke her elbows out the wrong way. Unfortunately this is not a good thing for your elbow to do while throwing a  javelin which is what she was doing when the joint over extended and one bone hit another causing a crack at the head of the radius. Yup. It is as painful as it sounds. So she is now casted up, in a sling, in pain, not sleeping well, and has a sore back from the sling and not having as much freedom of movement.

And over the past few weeks all the kids have had a bug. Nothing dramatic, just headaches, upset tummies and fevers, but still. CJ copped it the worst with her run down system being sick on and off for over two weeks. Lou had it for around a week, TJ and I both copped it for a couple of days. No problem. Except that TJ’s asthma also flared and since having that bug he has developed the typical barking seal cough that usually signals the onset of croup. Yes croup. Yes I know that is supposed to only affect younger children, and he is 11 years old, but the symptoms have not changed and it still all ends the same every year – with him on prednisone. Sigh.

Meantime I have to let you know that a sore, sleep deprived Lou is a very unhappy Lou. And an very unhappy Lou means an unhappy household. Being in pain and not sleeping  properly has left her less able to keep her anxiety under control and she has been increasingly emotional, snappy and paranoid as well as less able than usual to correctly judge the tone, intent and actions of others.  I’m sure you can imagine the resulting arguments and confrontations.

Oh and PSLS has been trying to quit smoking. :| I don’t think any more needs to be said really. We all know what that can be like.

So there you have it in a nut shell. May sucked. Big fat hairy donkey’s balls.

June had better be better!

oh my what a month! Surely June can only get better!

Tell Lou I really feel for her (and you) as I broke my elbow when I was in my 20’s – cracking the ball and the joint part and it hurt like hell for a long long LONG time!

Oh B, what a shitty month May was for you all. If I’d known I would have sent chocolate, and lots of sympathy. I hope Lou is feeling more comfortable and able to sleep better really soon. Has the bug left your house now? Croup is just nasty, it’s like a combination of whooping cough and asthma.

Oh no – that does suck bfhdb!! V didn’t give up smoking last month because of a litany of woes – and I for one was glad that I didn’t have to deal with crappy giving up husband as well as the litany – although it is still something to look forward to.
