Not the bunnies part II

Some of you may remember when we first moved into our house near the airport that there were bunnies in the street that my cats were taking delight in (in a “look there’s dinner on legs” kinda way).

Well, despite being smack in the middle of town in this house… there are still bunnies!

Pretty, floppy earred, brown and white bunnies… with owners who couldn’t give a rat’s fat clacker and let the bunnies roam free in their backyard, the neighbours yards and the back lane.

You can see where this is going right?

And apparently those pretty, floppy earred, brown and white bunnies had baby bunnies. And the pretty, floppy earred, brown and white baby bunnies were kept in an open box in the backyard, with it’s open gate onto the back lane…

Mind you, our kitties are not the only ones in the area, so I’m sure they are not the only ones making lunch out of the bunnies but they are the only ones that the bunny owning kids followed home to have a whinge at.

My kids promptly told them to put their damn rabbits away properly then.

And as callous as that may sound, they’re right.

The parent’s obviously don’t really want their kid to have his pets if they can’t be bothered making or buying them a proper pen. I can understand letting the rabbits have some free range time IF they couldn’t get out of the yard and they were reasonably confident that nothing was going to get in, but to just let them roam where they like, all day, every day is asking for them to be eaten, run over or picked up and walked off with.

I’d put money on them not worrying about whether those baby bunnies had more bunnies all over the neighbourhood either if the nearby cats hadn’t picked them off.

*shakes head*

I could tell a similar bunny story, right here in an inner suburb of Adelaide. The back yard was actually rabbit burrows from one end to the other.

    ** bang bang bunnies **

Only good bunny is a dead bunny.
