I uploaded my final portfolio for my photography unit today.

I’ve quite enjoyed the unit and learnt a lot. Learning some of the more technical aspects of composing pictures was quite interesting and I have a much better idea of how to do that so that I am not just taking lots of shots, hoping for a few good ones and then heavily relying on editing to improve my results or create impact in my images.

Also  completing the assignments meant taking a break from the computer and books to get out and about with the camera, a very welcome break from the heavy reading and writing demands of my other unit.

Anyhow, I thought I’d put up some of the pictures I’ve been taking. These are from the second last assignment where we had to choose one architectural and one landscape location and take variety of shots demonstrating what we had been learning.

The architectural photographs are of my church and the landscape ones taken on the banks of the Lachlan river.

These are awesome! What’s the degree/course that you’re doing exactly? Sounds like lots of fun!

um. I’m not doing any particular degree or course just yet lol!

I’m enrolled with Open Universities Australia and at the moment am just doing individual units that interest me while I get used to studying again and figure out where I want to go with it. The hardest part about it is figuring out what to limit myself to. There are so many units from different areas that I’d like to try - arts units, literature, history, education, sociology, psychology, a little bit of science…. It could take me some time to figure out a degree to settle on LOL

Next week I start two new units - one on literacy in education and an art unit on printmaking.

Oh that’s such an awesome idea! Good luck with it!! Is it very expensive to do it that way? Is it all online?

I like your landscape shots - you have made the river look like a very inviting spot that I would love to explore. Good luck with your studies and keep posting photos.

I love the photos, great work. Hope you are enjoying your course - it sounds like it. Do you get some down time over Christmas from your study?

Yeah, I am enjoying it. I’m not sure yet if we get some down time over Xmess or not - will find out on monday when I can access my learning materials for the new units. I’m guessing that whether I get a break or not will largely depend on how organised and on top of things I am.

    How is your study going?

I love the framing of the first one with the gate post - and man, they knew how to do brickwork in the good old days, didn’t they.

    Fantastic you finished the unit.

The Architectural shots are Very good. You should be pleased with yourself.

I went back to school with Veronica, we did year 11 together. I originally wanted to go to uni and study history with the idea of getting my teacher’s degree. Halfway through first term I dropped environmental science for Art and here I am now.

I would love to do printmaking, keep us informed of how it goes. xo Kim
