Head down, bum up

is pretty much what I’ve been doing this week.

Cracking the books.

Trying to wrap my head around modernism and post modernism and the concept of self, while trying to define my worldview and locating my ’situated self’ while freaking the fuck out.

*catches spinning head as it detaches and gaffer tapes it back onto her neck before it disappears into the stratosphere*

Well OK. I stopped freaking the fuck out as soon as I posted in the student cafe that I was freaking the fuck out and a heap of the other students were also freaking the fuck out and now I feel much better and decidedly less freaked the fuck out.

There are about 140 people in our tutorial group. I’ve only seen about 20 of them contribute to the discussions in our tutorial group though so have no idea where most of them are or what they are up to.

I’m starting to feel a bit on top of things now with a couple of assignments under my belt and some good marks for them. I’ll feel a lot more of top of things after I get my first ‘academic’ essay finished and submitted at the end of next week.

In the meantime though I need to get back to blogging. Far from being a distraction or something that gets missed in amongst the business, this is something I need to make time for.

Our tutor keeps encouraging us to write, Write, WRITE. He says the only way to improve our writing is to practice it regularly. I already have a ready made forum for that. I need to start making more time again for using it.

So, looking forward to catching up with all of you soon.

B

It sounds as though you are off to a flying start and have your head around it all.

I am sure you will do well.

I really don’t have my head around it all. I have decided that I definitely DO NOT want to study philosphy any further! LOL

There’s a similar view of me at our place – head down bum up that is. Hope you are getting your head around it all. There’s nothing like a good mark to keep you motivated is there ? :)

Good marks help with the motivation that’s for sure, but I really don’t think I’ll take anything to do with philosophy again!

    Hey B!
Sounds painful. But at least you have company. Are you going to uni to become a tutor? I’m not sure if things are really different over there than they are here. I admire anyone who goes back to school – it’s tough no matter what you’re trying to acheive.

Painful is one word for it…….. LOL

I’m not sure exactly where I’m heading with it yet, I’m thinking something in the area of behavioural sciences, but I also figure it will become clearer as I go.
