*shakes head*
The other night I had already picked up two kids and left them at home for 5 minutes to watch tea while I ducked one block up the road to pick up the other kid. While I’m picking up the 15 year old the other two having hopped on the pc at home and are chatting online, calling the 15 year old friend’s brother a dumbarse or some such.
They got an arse kicking when I got home.
Tonight, the 12 year old is online and starts chatting to her friend when it becomes apparent that there is a whole group of older kids on the other end who tell her to fuck off.
These are all the same kids (mine and otherwise) who were involved in all the boy silliness a few weeks back.
Now I understand that kids trash talk each other and they swear, but shit. What’s next?
A repeat of one of the boys saying that they are in the shower having a wank or something equally inappropriate?
Fuck that. I’m drawing a line.
As soon as the other kids heard the phone ring at their house they ran out to the mother complaining that they hadn’t ‘done nuffin!’
They’re all banned. Mine and hers.
She was banning hers from the Internet completely. I’m banning mine from anyplace they can chat.
Won’t they all get a shock the next time they log on and can only access their emails and certain educational sites? When other sites will be only available using my log in and will be strictly supervised to ensure no repeats of this weeks stupidity?
After the whole conversation about me being stricter, it’s time they realised, they ain’t seen nothing yet!

When Dave was 12(ish) I had the same problems with MSN which I uninstalled and I changed the settings on my computer as well just to remind him that internet access was a priveledge. *sigh* He wasn’t impressed at all. But he got over it eventually. I am his Mother not his best friend.
We were having problems with mobile phones at school as well. Luckily for me Dave went swimming with his phone in his pocket and then he snapped it in anger.
I wouldn’t replace his phone and so a lot of the trouble at school settled down a bit.
All this was in his first year of highschool. We haven’t had any problems since.

I deleted messenger from the pc when my eldest started chatting and getting a mouthful of abuse from so-called school “friends”.
Nip it in the bud before it spirals out of control into something nasty.

Remind them that anything they say online can come back to haunt them one day when they are applying for a job. (The first thing my DH does when looking at shortlisted candidates is to google them…) Once something is typed and sent, it is a record and they have no control over it.

Stick to your guns. There may be fireworks, but you’ll all survive and they’ll thank you for it when they have their own children in years to come.
Great job. Let them know who is the boss.
A mother on the ball and not wanting to play bestest friend with their kids. Damn good to see.
