to discover that a child of mine can’t cook but I was.
CJ and I have been sick for much for the week with the flu, garden variety not pig variety, and hubby has been away for much of the week with work so on Thursday night I asked the 15 year old to cook tea, just something basic, and she was a little panicked. She settled on chicken nuggest and chips. I told her to wait for the chips to be half cooked before putting the nuggets on a tray in the oven and that was fine only she wasn’t paying much attention and ended up trying to serve everything up only half cooked. A mistake that was easily remedied, but one that I somehow found surprising.
I don’t know why. Especially when thinking about it brings back the realisation that she was with her father during the time I started teaching the other two to cook but still, you’d think they’d have taught her something. Anything.
Oh hold on.
That’s right, her father and step mother are fucktards. Excuse me for my temporary lack of remembrance.*slaps self*
TJ’s culinary repertoire at age ten includes sausages, grilled cheese on toast, cheese toasties, pita bread pizza, rissoles, chicken burgers and taco’s as well as basic cakes.
CJ’s also includes cakes, muffins and slices, boiling/microwaving assorted veges and she could probably swing spag bol or a shepard’s pie in a pinch.
Miss Lou’s competence in the kitchen extends to green salad, pita bread pizza, corn fritters and frog in the hole. Not exactly food you can live off all the time.
Sigh.
Yet another thing I have to catch her up on.

Heh, yep, she was being raised by fucktards. Thankfully that has been rectified.

What’s got me stuffed though is in all his “project moving Lou towards freedom project” to prepare her to move out of his home asap he completely neglected to teach her any practical skills so she can take care of herself.
idjit. (him not you)
I dont know how some “parents” figure a child learns. You sound like a good Mum

Perhaps he thought she’d learn by osmosis……….. though how she’d learn anything of value from him given that he’s a useless asshat is beyond me.
Thanks.
I love how much your kids can cook. I have just started doing more cooking with my eldest and he is actually enjoying it.

TJ and CJ both enjoy cooking. It’s a great thing to be able to share turning it from a job into an activity. CJ often cooks with her father as well – they make one hell of a mess, but they have a ball figuring everything out together, experimenting and taste testing everything lol
I’m glad your eldest is enjoying it. it’s a great activity to do together
Green salad, pita pizzas, corn fritters and toad in the hole. AND chicken nuggets and chips. Already that takes care of Monday to Friday. I think she’s doing pretty well, given her previous circumstances. I’m sure with your help, she’ll be cooking up a storm in no time.
I vividly remember my mum demanding that M (stepdaughter, age 10) darn the holes in her school socks and not to come out of her room until the job was done. M was in tears, no-one had ever shown her how to darn anything, not even mum. I didn’t understand how M was supposed to do the job without having been taught and said so, to which mum snapped back “everyone knows how to darn”. pfft!.

Everyone knows how to darn IF they’ve been shown. Yeah, that is a bit silly.
Lou would eat pita pizza and two minute noodles all week if the choice was left to her. Helping with cooking has really helped my other two to take more ownership of their food choices and to enjoy food, I’m hoping that teaching Lou about food will help her to enjoy it and be more aware of what she is and isn’t putting into her body.
Good that you have realised now and can start teaching her to cook.

It’s weird, because I’ve just always included the kids in cooking when they were interested so it just didn’t occur to me that she’d have very little involvment at her fucktards so wouldn’t even know how to tell if a vegetable was cooked.
offspring#1’s father is also a fucktard. so is her stepmother for that matter. how they manage to live & breathe day to day is beyond my comprehension. Ex calls me today.. “hey, can i bring our 7 year old offspring home on the back of my harley” ?
Me: NO.
care to guess what she rolled up on the back of (thankfully unscathed) an hour later ?
his mum still makes his lunch for him everyday despite the fact that he’s 33 years old and lives 20 minutes away from her. i think it’s down to me to teach offspring to cook..along with everything else. should she desire any lessons in fucktardery, i’ll point her in his direction.

did you kill him? I think I would have.
I’d take a baseball bat to my ex fucktard and his fucktard wife if I saw them right now. Thankfully they live 1300km’s away and can’t manage their money for shit so that is highly unlikely anytime soon unless he guilt trips his parents out of more cash again. I dunno how they manage to live and breathe day to day either.
These kind of dipshits amaze me coz, somehow, they manage to do the hunting/gathering thang and feed themselves but neglect to pass this info on to the next generation for survival skills.

I know. There should be some kind of case study done…………. right before we shoot them all and put their children out of their misery!
THANK GOD she is home where she belongs among people who understand what it is like to love and respect each other.
Though on thinking, I don’t know what my kids could cook on their own if I asked……. Might have to get onto that.
