Our garden is somehow miraculously still alive despite the best efforts of the sun, heat and no-rain gods.
And it’s still producing.

Yes we are still getting Zucchini! I planted two lots of 3 plants six weeks apart and next year I think I’ll settle for two lol BUT. We have been more vigilant with checking so managing to pick them smaller and do have enough grated zucchini sitting in the freezer at the moment to use in two dishes a week for the next 3 months and that’s not bad going at all!

This will be our third Cucumber. We are quite happy with that, one every week or so is good.

Our Rockmelon and Watermelon plants have really taken off, we are just hoping that we get something off them.

I need to harvest these over the next day or two, I’m pleased with the Shallots, and I’ve found that I can dice and freeze what I don’t use until I need it.

We have three Butternut Pumpkins growing nicely so far. the QLD Blue keeps dropping off, we aren’t sure why.

We have oodles and ooooodles of Chinese Cabbage growing. It seems that I have yet to teach my husband the benefits of planting a few plants regularly instead of a heap of plants once. lol

And this is my poor Celery. It’s growing very slowly, but we haven’t harvested any yet.

I guess this is the big news of this update. CJ has been keeping a very close eye on our Corn.

PSLS counted them up and thinks we’ll get around 30 cobs.

We picked the first cob yesterday.

CJ has claimed it as her own and is cooking it for tea tonight lol
We also discovered why we aren’t getting many Tomatoes despite the plants being so weighed down that no amount of staking and tying is helping……….

Yup. Our dog loves ‘em.
Loves ‘em so much that he keeps an eye on them and as soon as they are ripe enough he pulls them off the plant and scoffs them down!

And this is how PSLS decided to get the Peaches off the tree that he couldn’t reach! CJ is only a centimetre or two shorter than him mind you!
Good thing he keeps in shape by lugging all that furniture around lol

Now the Peaches looked lovely and so did our Nectarines and they smelt divine………………….

but we didn’t manage to keep the fruit fly out of them. Hopefully we’ll do better next year.
We’ve started prepping some more garden bed areas and I’m hoping to get a little planting done over the weekend (if it cools down enough to get outside!) I’d really like to get some beans, lettuce and more carrots in………….. and see if I can finally get hubby to give a different style of gardening that doesn’t involve lots of rows a go

I’m so impressed with your haul! One day I hope to have a vegie patch, but I have to learn the first thing about gardening before then!!

Gorgeous – although your peaches reminded me of those of my childhood – only ours were far more ravaged!!

PSLS is an overgrown kid. *giggles*
What a bumper crop you have there. Bummer about the fruit fly, but you’ve done well.

ooh look at all your garden goodness… we are hoping this mental heat hasn’t wiped out all of our vegies before they have had a chance to produce anything!

That’s a great garden! Have you ever had corn on the cob picked straight from the plant, shucked, then nibbled on while you wander around looking at the rest of the garden? No cooking required, and so, so sweet. Then you nibble on a couple of tomatoes, a few peas, a bean or two, then you go inside and wonder why they’re all clamouring for dinner, because you are feeling quite full. Heh.
I see you have a dog like mine. Rory also ate the tomatoes off the bush as soon as they are ripe. She also eats the strawberries off the plants plus the olives off the tree, even if they are not ripe. She would also eat the passionfruit if she could get through the thick skin. So we get to have the passionfruit but they all have dog teeth marks.

MPS started growing tomatoes. He was obsessing on them.
They are all dead and he is heartbroken.
I won’t show him your post lest he decide to turn our bedroom into a hothouse.

That’s it. You’ve inspired me to get my garden back in shape. Since I’ve been away things have gone a bit haywire. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it sorted out. My Nanna bought me a huge bail of cane mulch for christmas- so that’ll be good to keep the weeds away!
