First one for 09!
Well, apart from the zucchini menu post yesterday.

Our first tomato! PSLS was really pleased with this. There are a heap on our two plants and more are starting to change colour.

I hope they cook alright, because with the amount we have on the plants, they aren’t going to get eaten in a hurry so will need to be cooked and frozen or something. I’m thinking I can make up a heap of spaghetti sauce with the tomatoes and zucchinis to freeze for use over the coming months.

Our first Cucumber! And only a couple of weeks late for Christmas lol

Half a bucketful of carrots! Still more in the ground too. PSLS did up a pot of these with honey the other night……… mmmmmmm

Our potato patch looks really good.

Baby pumpkins starting to grow. We have butternut

and QLD Blue in.

Our corn is starting to flower. We aren’t sure how it will go as it’s not as tall as we thought it should be. We are making sure to keep plenty of water up to it though.

Our Rockmelon is flowering.

So is our Watermelon and we can see the first buds of fruit. I’m really hoping we get something off these plants. Both fruits are very big in our house.
Speaking of fruit

We found these growing over the vines down our side fence.

And it looks like we managed to save some peaches

and Nectarines from the fruit fly
So there you have it.
Now the trick is going to be to keep everything alive during the hot weather spells we are expecting over the next month or two.
I’m off to buy some more mulch this afternoon.

Woah, they are awesome! Well done.
I am such a brown thumb, but looking forward to a small veggie patch when we move to our house.

That all looks wonderful! I have lots of tomatoes on our bushes but nothing ripe yet. As for the corn, I was worried about how small ours were when they flowered but amazed at how quickly they grew from there (I had thought they wouldn’t grow any bigger once they flowered but they definitely have!).

They look amazing.
No matter how hard I try my veggie plants just keep wilting. Yesterday I cut some holes in the bottom of an empty cordial bottle and filled it with water, is now slowly draining onto our tomato plant.
Next empty cordial bottle will go onto some of the silverbeet.
Ok, I’m jealous!! THe only thing I can grow is stuff that does it whether Iwant it to or not – namely weeds….. sigh!

Oh Congratulations on your wonderful garden!!! We picked our first every veggies the other day…. some really yummy beans
Our zucchini is growing wildly although no crops on it yet, we have baby pumpkins starting to appear, we staked our tomatoes yesterday, our watermelon seems to be doing ok, although our poor broccoli is being eaten by something
Isn’t it amazing how great it feels to grow your own produce, I can’t wait until more of ours is ready to eat… YUM!!!

Your garden produce is wonderful. Mine *sigh* is almost dead, nothing left but two bean plants with a handful of beans and one red fig tomato bush, and about a dozen half grown carrots. Well, there’s always next year…
mmmmmm I can almost smell those tomatoes! I love the smell of fresh tomatoes on the vine and how you can’t get it off you when you brush up on the plant.
I’m currently really only growing herbs myself.

Yay.. your garden looks great. I freeze my excess tomatoes and make relish or sauce when the weather cools down. I also freeze a combination of chopped tomatoes and onions and garlic in snap lock bags and use that instead of tinned tomatoes when I am making spag-bol or anything tomatoey.. I also have a wicked recipe for zucchini pickle if you would like it..
In the early years here, we were nearly totally self-sufficient so I have heaps of recipes for surplus produce if you would like them.. everything from elderberry wine to pumpkin bread..

That all looks amazing. I’m with Lee on the smell of fresh, real tomatoes. There is nothing quite like it. And the taste………….
A friend of mine used to make a chocolate zucchini cake – sounds weird but the zucchini was grated and kept the cake really moist and yummy. I don’t have her recipe but have seen one somewhere online so will see if I can find a link for you.

Wow, your garden is fabulous!! I’m extremely envious! I don;t have a yard, so I do all my growing in tubs on the balcony. So far I’ve conquered herbs (My basil’s going wild) and strawberries – I had my first two ripe one’s yesterday!
I’m so jealous. My garden didn’t survive my 6 week holiday. The tomato’s are long gone, the herbs are non existant (although the lavander, basil and chives appear to be making a comeback) and my lemon tree and avocado tree have been decimated by a grasshopper plague, but they also seem to be recovering. Fingers crossed the make it.
Speaking of when it gets cooler I may have to get out in the garden and actually do something.
